Night Out organizational meeting Thursday
The National Association of Town Watch has scheduled the 2012 National Night Out on Aug. 7, and local law enforcement will host an informational meeting for interested participants 10 a.m. Thursday at the Public Safety Building, according to the Frankfort Police Department.
The August event for Frankfort/Franklin County will be at the Lakeview Park Pavilion from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for and participation in local anticrime, community policing and community safety programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; strengthen police-community partnerships to assist in obtaining the highest level of quality of life possible for citizens; send a message to criminals and those that would disrupt public order and threaten public safety, that the community is organized.

State fair entries due today
Entries in several categories of Kentucky State Fair competitions are due today.
Categories include almost anything that can be grown, baked, made and sewn, such as antiques, culinary, fine arts, hobbies, textiles, homebrewed beer, homemade wine, plants and flowers, bees and honey, dairy products, eggs and several others.
To enter, visit www.kystatefair.org and fill out the online entry form or mail a completed form to Kentucky State Fair Entry Department, P.O. Box 37130, Louisville, KY 40233-7130.
Late entries may be accepted with a late fee by July 10.
