COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo has married fiancee Allison Patrick in a private ceremony Saturday. The wedding was held at Saint Mary's Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington, said Chief of Staff Jeff Derouren. "Allison is truly one of the most remarkable women I have ever met, and I am blessed to now have her as my wife," the Democratic lieutenant governor said in a prepared statement. "I know she will prove to be a wonderful asset as together we work hand-in-hand with all Kentuckians to move our state forward." The couple had been tightlipped in advance of the wedding, announcing earlier this month only that they were getting married at a church somewhere in Kentucky. The two met while Mongiardo was a state senator and Patrick was a volunteer for state Sen. Alice Forgy Kerr. They announced their engagement last year during Mongiardo's run for lieutenant governor. The Mongiardo, now 47, and Patrick, now 22, dated for three years before announcing their engagement. It is the first marriage for both. "We couldn't be happier to start our new life together and are blessed to have our families share in our special day," the bride said in statement. Mongiardo, a Democrat, was elected in November on the ticket of Gov. Steve Beshear. An ear, nose and throat physician from Hazard, Mongiardo has won two state Senate elections and lost a close U.S. Senate race to Jim Bunning in 2004. Comments
