Bunko Bash is Monday

Phi Beta Psi Sorority is hosting a Bunko Bash Monday at the Frankfort Plant Board Clubhouse.  Registration is at 6:30 p.m. and play begins at 7 p.m. The cost is $15 per person and all proceeds will be used for cancer research and to assist local cancer patients.  For more information call Karen at 227-7635.

‘Nutcracker’ tickets going on sale

The Frankfort School of Ballet will present its 12th annual “Nutcracker” performance, with special guest magician Jeffrey Knight, at the Grand Theatre Nov. 21 at 2 and 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at FSB Monday, 5-7 p.m., Thursday, 5:30-8 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Nov. 16, 5-7 p.m. and at the Grand Theatre Wednesday, 12:30-3 p.m., Nov. 18, 12:30-3 p.m., and at the door on Nov. 21. For more information, call 226-6443 or visit www.frankfortballet.com.

Commission to discuss sidewalks

The City Commission meets 5 p.m. Monday at City Hall.

Agenda items include discussion of a proposed sidewalk maintenance plan and second reading on an ordinance concerning abandoned urban property.

Test scores releasing soon

Franklin County High School CATS student test scores will be available for pick up at FCHS room 435 from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday.

An explanation of the test scores will be provided. Any student test scores not picked up at this time will be mailed by the end of the week.

Governor’s Scholars info. available

Franklin County High School is holding a parent meeting Tuesday for any junior interested in applying for the Governor’s Scholars program. The meeting is in room 435 at 6 p.m. A representative from the program will be in attendance.

Holmes Street neighbors meeting

The Holmes Street Neighborhood Association meets 7 p.m. Tuesday at Thorn Hill Learning Center.

Topics for discussion include rehab housing, Brownfield Grants, drainage, sidewalks and memberships.

Transit releases holiday schedule

Frankfort Transit will be operating on limited service using the Saturday schedule, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. route and 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. job access the following days:

Veterans Day, Wednesday, Day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, New Year’s Eve, Jan. 31

Credit union conducting fundraiser

Commonwealth Credit Union’s eighth annual “Christmas Miracles” silent auction fundraiser is now underway, continuing through noon Nov. 20. All bids will be placed online this year at www.ccuky.org; select “Christmas Miracles” to place bid(s).

Commonwealth CU is again joining forces with Daniel’s Care Program of Hospice of the Bluegrass. Last year more than $15,000 was raised for the children.

Area businesses and credit union employees donated more than 200 festive gift baskets. All proceeds of the fundraiser will go to brighten the holiday of terminally ill children in our state.

Help wanted for Veterans Day event

The Franklin County High School Air Force JROTC is asking Franklin County to help celebrate Veterans Day Wednesday.

Anyone serving in the military or who has a friend or relative in the service or who has served is asked to send or bring a picture of the service member with information about him or her to FCHS.

Pictures and information may also be e-mailed to Ed.Parsons@franklin.kyschools.us or mailed to FCHS AF JROTC, 1100 E. Main St., Frankfort, KY 40601.

Students selling poinsettias

The Frankfort High School senior class is selling poinsettias through Nov. 30.

Cost is $10. The colors are red, white-star, pink, marble and peppermint. Each plant comes in a foil wrapped 6-inch pot.

Delivery is Dec. 10. Call Jennifer at 320-3359 or Cheryl at 695-4560 to place an order.

Raffle tickets on sale

Raffle tickets for the $5,000 Cash Raffle to support Good Shepherd School are now on sale.

The ticket price is $25 and only 1,000 tickets will be sold. The raffle is Saturday at the Good Shepherd Gala. You do not need to be present to win.

Tickets can be purchased after all weekend Masses, at the school office or by calling Mary Ann Stevens at 227-9962.

Alzheimer’s Association giving tips

The Alzheimer’s Association, 465 E. High St., is presenting a workshop from 2-4 p.m. Nov. 16.

The program is for those who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia and is designed to educate new caregivers on dementia, safety issues and community resources.

Chili and soup supper Nov. 20

Franklin County Career and Technical Center Welding Booster Club is holding a chili and soup supper Nov. 20 from 5-7 p.m. at the Elkhorn Middle School cafeteria.

Cost is $7 for all you can eat. Price includes chili, soup, drink and homemade dessert.

Sample different homemade chili and soups and vote for favorites.

The event will also feature a cornhole tournament.

Early Years collecting gloves, mittens

Early Years Orthodontics is collecting new gloves and mittens for Coats for Kids.

Donations can be dropped off at the practice’s 635 Comanche Trail location.

Call the office at 227-1931 prior to coming to make sure someone is available to accept the donation. Mittens and gloves will be collected through Dec. 17.

Those who donate will be eligible to win a new Sonicare toothbrush.

FFA alumni club starting

The Franklin County High School FFA is starting an FCHS FFA Alumni Club to help support programs associated with FFA.

Membership is open to anyone who is interested in supporting and promoting agricultural education and the FFA on the local, state and national level.

The club’s first meeting is 5 p.m. Dec. 3 in FCHS agriculture room 509.
