Western Hills High School graduate Kirsten Nitz swam her second and final day at the 2012 Olympic Team Trials in Omaha, Neb., on Tuesday.

She finished 144th with a time of 1:05.41 in the Women’s 100-meter backstroke preliminaries. She did not qualify to the semifinals in the event.

The Thoroughbred Nautical Team swimmer also competed Monday in the Women’s 100-meter butterfly, where she ranked 147th with a time of 104.47.

"Well, I'm disappointed my times weren't faster, but I know that's how swimming goes sometimes," Nitz said Wednesday. "I'm encouraged to continue to train hard so I can swim fast later."

Nitz will continue her swimming career at Wheaton College, an NCAA Div. III school in Wheaton, Ill.

"I think swimming at this big-time meet definitely prepared me for later meets and will give me confidence when I swim at other fast meets," she said.

"It's been an amazing experience and I'm so grateful to be here."
